About
My name is Sheryl Adams. I’ve been helping people improve their lives for more than 17 years. I specialize in phase of life issues such as pregnancy/new parenthood, mid-life transitions, and the challenges of aging. I love being a counselor because I get to encourage others to become more aware of their positive qualities, make positive changes, and journey toward personal growth and greater happiness. I want to honor the story of your life and help you write the next chapter so nobody but you is making the edits.
You may be wondering a little about my story. I reached a time in my life when I was struggling. Important people told me, “you’re really not doing well”. So I decided to get some help. I met with a psychiatrist who I saw only once. I found him to be a complete dolt who suffered from “big me, little you” syndrome which further deteriorated my ailing self-confidence. Then I met Dorothy, a counselor who helped me connect with parts of myself that I thought were lost forever. I actually had one of those “ah-ha” moments that Oprah talks about. I thought – this is it – I need to make changes. I learned how to get unstuck. I developed coping strategies that turned wishes into realities. I created an achievable vision for my life that was in line with who I wanted to be.
My goal is to meet you with the same care and compassion that Dorothy offered me. I can help you become aware of your potential so that you can step into the future you want. I understand that change is scary. I can help you face the fear with more ease so you have the confidence to create more of what you want in life.

Work Experience
I am a mental health counselor. I bring to my practice a love of learning – about the world and about my patients. My goal is to integrate the latest findings of psychology and medicine with the contemplative practice of mindfulness to help my patients make necessary changes for a happier, more satisfying, successful life.
For many years I taught at a community college where I developed expertise in how adults can learn new things that transform their lives. For the next ten years I worked as an employment counselor where I developed a program that matched people’s strengths and talents to the world of work. Then I went on for the next 13 years to direct a healthcare clinic where I developed a deep understanding of the relationship between substance abuse, mental health, and physical health. For more than 9 years, I have been working in a military hospital with where I help families face a variety of life’s challenges that include serious health problems, trauma, bonding, and bereavement.
